How to maintain a professional image on social media?
„“One who isn’t on the internet doesn’t exist” – there is a great deal of truth in this saying. However, it is worth ensuring that we are on social media consciously, taking care of our professional image.
- Goals matter
First and foremost, you need to know the purpose for which you wish to maintain your professional image. Maybe you want to get a new job? Or maybe you have your own business and want to establish your image as an expert? Or maybe you want to build relationships with potential customers through social media? Set out your expectations in detail – this will help you take the right steps.
- Fine feathers make fine birds
Ensure that on your online profiles (especially Facebook and Instagram, but also LinkedIn) there are no compromising, vulgar or overly “entertaining” photos published (or at least, in the case of Facebook, visible to users you are not friends with). Make sure you take good quality photos, including portrait photos.
- What are your interests?
Interests say a lot about a person, and they can also enhance your image in an intriguing way. Try to present them in an appealing, creative way, but remember – never lie.
- Message consistency
Ensure that the information is consistent across the various platforms you are on. Differences in the positions or companies you have worked for do not speak well of you. The information you publish must build a positive and, above all, credible image of you.
- Check the way you write
The manner of your writing can be one of your main strengths, but it can also bring you down. Be particularly attentive to linguistic, spelling or factual errors. Also pay attention to the form of speech and language – to ensure that your message is perfectly received by your audience.
